I’m sure we’ve all heard that our fates have already been written before we were even born. However, I don’t think that’s how it works. It’s not merely just our ‘fate’, we ourselves write our fates through the decisions we make. Either you choose to figure out how to get through all the difficulties and find your happiness, or you sit and just put all the blame on life.

I was the “quiet kid” growing up (people who know me now will probably laugh). I wanted to share my thoughts with the world, but I just didn’t know how. Going to school and not having friends was sad. I lacked confidence. The turning point was when we moved to the senior wing. I told myself “No Maryam, we need to become more confident and make those memories”. Initially speaking up, getting myself to engage and participate was hard, but I eventually started talking to the people around me, getting to know them and to be honest, turns out I am not that different; I just never tried before. There was a bit of guilt too because it felt like I was forcing myself to change but I realized that reinventing doesn’t have to be changing yourself completely, it simply is presenting yourself in a new font.

So I did exactly that, and fast forward to the present, I have made a lot of memories with a lot of people and many more are on their way! We all want our obstacles to disappear, but the mistake we make is waiting for life to unfold in a way that we don’t face challenges while in reality, we are the heroes of our own stories, so come on, reinvent yourself, for the good!

Just try, be confident, and everything else will fall into place <3
